Woman's Body - Miriam Stoppard, MD
A must read for all men. The female body is an order of magnitude more complicated than the male body - all those extra systems to have babies. Next time your better half is moody or withdrawn, spend a little quality time studying this lavishly illustrated book to understand why. A good assignment for any woman upset at the things her body does to her; once you understand the awesome complexity of the woman's body, you'll never get upset again - and might even take better care of yourself.
The Romance Factor - Alan Loy McGinnis
The chapter titles tell the story: how to ignite romantic love, choosing the right partner, building intimacy, weathering marital storms without sinking the ship, how to avoid affairs, building a lasting relationship. This is a priceless little book written by a minister with years of experience helping couples through their problems.
The Memoirs of Cleopatra - Margaret George
The first female monarch of note, Cleopatra was awesome. I treasure the first half of this book, when she was wooing Julius Caesar, as one of the best romantic tales of all time. This heavily researched historical novel gives fascinating insights into the Ancient world, and rare personal glimpses into the persona of Caesar. He was a brave an honorable man, a strong leader, an admirable politician, and stalwart servant of the common people. No doubt that's why they assassinated him.
Historical Erotica - edited by Maxim Jakubowski
Turn off the TV and have a candle light dinner at home with your spouse next Saturday night. Treat yourselves to a hot tub and bath salts, then curl up under crisp clean bed linens and read out loud to each other passages from this "Mammoth Book of Historical Erotica." You'll soon reach the point where you just can't take it any more, and tender lovemaking will ensue.
The Holy Letter - Seymour Cohen
Not to leave such an important part of the human condition unexplored, the ancient Rabbis made a considerable study of sexuality. It was considered a mitzvot or holy commandment for a man to pleasure his wife every Sabbath eve. This little volume describes their teachings all the way down to what foods maximize the sensual pleasures.
Sex and Human Loving - Masters and Johnson
This is the long standing Bible on human sexuality. We all need to read it cover to cover, and refer to it on a regular basis. Learn about intimacy, sexual behavior; know what is and is not sexual harassment - yes it can happen, in your own bedroom. Accept that love is not a one dimensional, mental thing; without sex, it loses all the colors.
The Joy of Sex - Alex Comfort
When you buy Masters and Johnson, you'll need some illustrations. This is your book. The drawings are artfully done and there is a mind boggling menagerie of things to do and places to do it. If all Americans could study and practice this book - especially Baptists - I think the French might just make us a new Statue of Liberty.
Love Magic - Antonia Beattie
A beautiful little book about the soft inner side of bliss - creating magical moments with your special love, using colors, candles, scents, and other "special effects" to entice the sensuality from both partners. It's not really magic at all, but simple visualization, confidence building, and self realization. It's nice to have some stimulation and sexuality while accomplishing the bare psychological goals, however; and that's what this book does for you, with style and sensitivity.
The Mysteries of Isis - deTraci Regula
A fun book that offers much of the ancient Egyptian religion in a quasi-religious context. Learn how to celebrate festivals as they did; set up your own little altar, dedicate it, and embellish it; even learn some magical incantations. Along the way learn about the Egyptian culture, their folk medicine, and their herbal remedies. Richly illustrated with images of ancient temples, statuary, and artwork. Isis may have been conceived in Egypt, but the cult spread throughout all nations of antiquity. Isis was the goddess of love.
