The Stanford Health and Exercise Book - Tony Evans, Editor
Why they never had any textbooks for high school physical education classes is a mystery to me. Every adult should know all the important things in this fun book. Some topics are: how to begin an exercise program from scratch, how to avoid excuses, myths about exercise, and how exercise improves your overall cardiovascular fitness.
Strength Training for Rugby - Bruce Walsh
There's not a rougher and more physically demanding sport on Earth than rugby - and leave it to the British to be its master! Rubgy is American football without rules, referees, or a halt in the action for ten minutes after every fifteen seconds of activity. Rugby is soccer without manners, hockey without remorse, boxing without gloves.
Getting Stronger - Bill Pearl
The only exercise book you'll ever need. Literally thousands of exercises for barbells and machines, categorized by muscle group and even by sport. Covers everything you need if you're a beginner; and gives enough variety of exercises to keep the expert weightlifters interested in the sport for year after aerobic year.
Personal Training - Jennifer Wade
A good exercise book for beginners, especially women. A complete selection of gentle exercises for muscle building, toning, and endurance. The nicely illustrated book describes workouts using small barbells, stretch bands, and other low impact exercising tools.
Stronger Abs and Back - Dean & Greg Brittenham
The most neglected muscle group - in athletes and couch potatoes alike - is the back (and to a lesser extent the stomach). This informative book rightfully claims to have 165 exercises to build your "center of power." They're all fully illustrated. Introductory information on general fitness and strengthening muscles is also provided.
Cycling Past 50 - Joe Friel
Working out as you get older presents unique challenges mentally, physically, and physiologically. This book gives you all the information you need - no matter your fitness level or sport history - to get out on the road on a good set of wheels in no time at all. Cycling is an invigorating way to get a solid workout, and is well suited to older athletes.
