Commercial Energy Analysis (DOS)
Small Hospitals Energy Management Program, State of Texas 1993
This program was developed (initially as a spreadsheet application) to perform quick, accurate analyses of several small, community hospitals for this State program of energy conservation projects. In the final report of the entire project to the Governor's Energy Office, the projects done with this software were shown to be more varied and had greater savings than other projects done simultaneously in the same engineering office for the same program. The software has since been developed into a stand-alone application, with help screens, pull down menus, and all the other common features of modern software.
LoanStar Energy audit of the San Antonio State School, Department of Mental Health & Mental Retardation
350,000 square foot facility of over thirty separate historic buildings were analyzed for energy savings opportunities for modifications to the building envelope: windows, wall insulation, roof insulation and attic ventilation. The software proved instrumental in allowing auditors to focus on the most effective projects in this extremely complex undertaking.
LoanStar Energy audit of the San Antonio State Hospital, Department of Mental Health & Mental Retardation
400,000 square foot facility of over fifty buildings, most of which were built in the early 1900's, was analyzed for energy savings opportunities for modifications to the building envelope: windows, wall insulation, roof insulation and outside air ventilation. In addition to major projects studied, the auditors were able to evaluate many low-cost projects accurately and confidently for the client.
Federal Bureau of Prisons Energy Audit, Alexandria LA
The President recently signed into law the requirement of all federal facilities to reduce energy consumption by 20% by the turn of the century. These facilities were relatively new and already applied many of the latest technologies. The software helped to target some good energy conservation projects quickly and accurately, in hours, instead of the many days of computer runs that would have been required using a full simulation program such as DOE II or EZ DOE.
Second Wind Fitness Center, Cedar Park TX
A large health club was interested in reducing utility bills, and the consequences of additional insulation and ventilation on the annual bills.
MidSouth Mechanical, Wimberly Texas
Uses the program to advise clients of large, $1 million + homes on the efficacy of such things as double paned windows, heavy wall construction, added insulation and other construction features clients and contractors regularly inquire about. The software is used to size the system as well as to calculate the annual energy loads.
Construction Technologies, Austin Texas
Markets a heavy concrete wall construction technology, and uses the software to calculate the annual energy savings over conventional construction techniques. The bin analysis features of the software allows the program to output values contingent on the load shifting characteristics of heavy mass buildings. No other program on the market has this capability.
Manning HVAC, Manchaca Texas
This residential and light commercial contractor was an enthusiastic beta tester of the software, and is high on the use and accuracy of the software. In comparison with the Manual-J application he used before, Mike said this program is much easier to learn and use and has many more useful features.
Residential Energy Analysis (DOS)

The software is based on the PEC energy conservation guidelines form, and has been used by them since 1994 to analyze residential permits in the Central Texas area.

Short Circuit Analysis
Olin E. Teague Veteran's Center, Temple Texas
This was a new $15 million hospital for the Veterans Administration, presently still under construction. This software was developed to satisfy the VA's very strict analysis criteria and reporting format. The calculations were performed to their satisfaction, and accepted for the design of all normal, emergency, and critical power systems.
Texas Department of Transportation Asphalt Testing Laboratory, San Antonio Texas
A retrofit project with extensive modifications to the existing service, a thorough analysis was necessary to confirm the design of this laboratory facility. Time was short and the budget shy, and a full coordination analysis was impossible; this program provided nearly the same accuracy, in a fraction of the time - and at virtually no cost.
Cesar Chavez Human Resources Building, Austin Texas
The available service, in this retrofit from a grocery store to an outpatient facility, had to be carefully analyzed to ensure the capacity was sufficient to the load under all conditions. The HVAC load was increased substantially, and a careful analysis of the electrical service was called for.
Zonal Cavity Lighting
Olin E. Teague Medical Center, Temple Texas
A $40 million, 290 bed hospital for the Veterans Administration. The initial room uses, values and design criteria were input and evaluated. The entire building was re-calculated many times, as the design progressed architecturally, and every time all the new values were developed in less than an hour - versus the days it would take with other programs.

Re-Lamping Analysis
Stephen F. Austin State office building, Austin Texas
The data from a renovation of this ten story office building were input in the program as a test run. The calculations showed that using the existing fixtures, and three lamp types of varying wattage and light output, the owner could save $10,000 a year in utility bills. The program automatically selected the lowest wattage lamp for each space to provide the IES standard light level. This is a typical office building, with the same 3-lamp 2X4 fixtures everywhere so that remodels would not require a fixture retrofit. Re-aligning the lamps is an ideal way to customize the lighting with each retrofit.
