This is a short historical novel about two of my ancestors who fought at Vicksburg ~ Sgt. Seigfried "Solomon" Erb of the 1st Arkansas Rifles (the first Confederate unit formed) and Col. William N. Brown, commanding the 20th Mississippi Cavalry. The official theme of the book is an investigation of the assassination of Confederate General Earl van Dorn right before the second Yankee campaign on Vicksburg. The real theme is "The Yankees Are Coming" ~ i.e. the overwhelming might of a newly industialized North confronts the rural independence of the South. This gives insight into how small third world nations feel about the immense power of the West in the modern day. Otherwise, you'll find the strategy, tactics, and politics of the two Vicksburg Campaigns are far more complicated and interesting than the more famous battle of Gettysburg.
